One More Puzzle Piece
Our neighborhood is awesome. But it could use...
5. One more nice bar
4. A co-op (credit goes to Emily for that suggestion)
3. Thai food restaurant (True Thai is close, but I want one even closer)
2. An Indian food restaurant
1. An easier way to get to all of Minneapolis west of Hiawatha Avenue.
Well, we can scratch item #2 off the list.
Thanks to Nora's observant parents, we learned that an Indian food restaurant has indeed opened in our neighborhood! Gandhi Mahal is located along 27th Avenue (that funny little street that runs between Minnehaha and Lake Street, right by Town Talk Diner).
Great food. We did take-out, but the restaurant interior is very attractive.

Click here for the restaurant's website. So many restaurants have come and gone from that location, but they haven't been as good as this one. So if you like Indian food even half as much as Emily and I do, you should go.

Yes! I agree with all items on your top 5 list. I have read good reviews on the new Indian restaurant, it's on our list to check out!
On a nice bar - the old Pizza Pie & I restuarnt is a PRIME location for something like this - of course it would need a total remodel, but think of a Happy Gnome type of a place. We've been scheming (ok, dreaming) with some friends about how to go in on buying it together and turning it into The Happy Camacho.
As a fellow resident of your neighborhood, I generally agree, but the Seward Coop is exactly 3.5 miles from your house (I google-mapped it) with plenty of bike racks. Added benefit of a bike lane almost the entire way on M'haha Ave. And for biking to all points west of Hiawatha... as I have done this to your house on many an occasion, I would highly recommend 42nd Street. Other than the Hiawatha intersection itself, it's a nice ride all the way to the biking-friendly Park/Portland or even all the way to Harriet if you so desire. (42nd from Lake Harriet is how I often roll from the office.) And of course there's Minnehaha Parkway and the Greenway if your ultimate destination is more north or south. And those go over Hiawatha. Now you owe me a beer at the Happy Camacho.
Carly- I agree with the Pizza Pie and I idea. Plus, they could have a beautiful outdoor area. That is a nice shady intersection.
Nathan- I am aware of Seward Co-op's existence, location, and how to get there ;)
But... did you notice the name? Or the fact that is indeed in the Seward neighborhood. Big picture: I want the co-op in my neighborhood. Not just one close by, but in freaking LoFo. I could live with a co-op in Lake8. Heck anywhere on East Lake or along 42ns avenue would be awesome.
well, something in Lofo or Noko would be nice, I'll grant you that. I'll take Noko, we don't have much down here other than an old overpriced Jubilee Foods. But I'm pretty excited for the new Seward Coop building opening soon. More veggies!
Jackalope - I agree with Nathan's comment - let's not be wasteful in LoFo or Lake8 or where ever, just throw your bike pannier bags on and bike over to the Seward Co-op. We are members are love it. Our CSA from last summer even did a drop once a week at Seward. Show some brotherly love for your border neighbors. If you need a rest stop in route, the Kohler house is always open for a cold beverage.
Well, I would like a co-op that is on my way home from work. Seward co-op is awesome but it is way out of my traffic pattern. Something in South Longfellow or Highland Park in St Paul would suit my needs.
There is karmic balance here. The good Indian restaurant in Duluth just folded.
Sigh.
